  • Okay, I was partially right guessing House was some kind of human hybrid/mutant. I know, it wasn't that much of a stretch. I'm just trying to pat myself on the back for getting at least close to being somewhat correct.

Wow, vampires. Well, not really THOSE vampires but a more human form? One that feels pain, doesn't change it's victim into one after feeding and doesn't run around with a black cape and make sounds like "mwuhahhaha". I have to admit the vampire thing scared me for a moment but your description of how he's more like a human kept me interested.

I think I'm going to enjoy this wildly AU fic and sticking around for the long haul.

Love the parallels with House feeding off Wilson. Hee hee. Oh, and House can feed off me any time.

    Loving this.

Quick question, which I'm sure will be answered (and you don't have to answer if you don't want to give anything away): Since House feels pain, does that mean he doesn't have miraculous healing powers like I've heard about vampires? I know he's NOT a vampire. Just wondering.
    • does that mean he doesn't have miraculous healing powers

He's not a supernatural creature, at all. He's just a haemovore. There are many interesting things involved in that, but nothing miraculous.
  • "I didn't mind that you'd kill me; I just didn't want to find out how you'd do it. If I could've, I would have just ... taken what I need. Instead of having this conversation."
That was when I just started to wonder if he was a vamp. Haemovore

Very cool! Looking forward to Monday's update :D
  • You know, the idea of House as a haemovore really fits perfectly with canon House, who takes and takes and takes from Wilson. Everyone latches onto the "House vs. God" scene where House called Wilson an emotional vampire, but you know that old saying about pointing a finger in accusation? It's true: House's accusation pointed right back at himself.

I love it that House is willing to die before he'll do something that goes against his own morals and preferences. That's once again a very in-character trait for the House we know in canon.
    • House is willing to die before he'll do something that goes against his own morals and preferences.

Yes, sometimes. He'd have died rather than be nicey-nice to try and get treatment. But it turns out that his moral or preferential boundaries about taking human blood are ... somewhat more flexible.

Hey, have you seen the rewritten 2.3?

Also, I've been updating the working timeline post. I just added a list of future story lines, segments that are at least partly written already -- it'll probably give you a smile. I'll start making it all into links sometime today.
  • Oh now it all makes sense! Vampire! This was such a total surprise. I love you guys. It explains House nightmare in the previous chapter with Wilson scoping House's mouth. What a dilemma Wilson is in. In order to stay sane, he has to feed House.

I had no clue what "haemovorus" was so I googled it and your site comes up as well as other explanations. Never heard that one before. :)))

This is so Wilson ..."And," Wilson pauses, pointing a finger as he locates the flaw in House's argument, " -- and you've been eating." I can see him tilting his head with that inquisitive voice.

Well done with the fangs paragraph. For whatever reason the whole extending and retracting of the fangs and House allowing Wilson to touch them made me quiver. The manipulative part was such a nice touch. The whole part with House feeding off of Wilson's wrist and Wilson feeling a sleepy warmth made me swoon. "House uses one of his needle-teeth to make a cut, and then both fangs retract as the blood begins to flow and House ... starts to take." That sentence along with mentioning his "unshaven jaw" made me crazy.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were manipulating me. LOL Why did House grimace?? I'm guessing he just wasn't feeling well enough to eat but knows he has to get his strength back.

So happy and damn Wilson is so cute. I can so see him doing this, "he has ended up opening and shutting doors, accidentally adjusting the thermostat, turning the lights on and off". I'm there with you Wilson. :D That would be me.

Again Great story!!! Can't wait till Monday! :)
  • House is a vampire?! I'm loving this fic!
  • Hah! I was totally right! *bounces* As soon as House started talking about his organs failing and Wilson having to make a choice at the end of the last chapter, a little niggle in the back of my head said "Hey, that sounds like that one vampire story where... naw, that can't be it". And then House's insistence on it not being an infection, and saying he could've just taken what he needed, and I was going "Ooh, ooh, ooh! It would be so cool if he were some kind of vampire!" And then he was, and that was sooo awesome. To hell with my paper; I'm catching up on this now. :D

    • Hee!

You caught the last one of us who's awake tonight -- just moments before the computer shut down.

We didn't know of any other vampire stories that resemble this, but apparently there are a few. Enjoy your reading; there'll be another minor twist soon enough. And a new chapter is in beta right now and should be up sometime tomorrow afternoon.

  • Vampires in Space- Not what I was expecting. You totally make it work though. :3
    • Thank you!

We left it a surprise because we wanted our readers to share a little of Wilson's utter shock. We're sure we lost a few readers at this point, but we were just having so much fun. And still are.

Hoping to get the next couple chapters up in 10 days or so; half of our Collective has been temporarily called away by real life, but they'll be back soon.
  • After giving myself time to recover from Bad Company, I was hungering for more stories written by the same amazing minds. I wasn't sure about this, because alternate universes are tricky and can go horribly wrong. But I figured if it was written by you guys, it couldn't be bad.

Anyway, why I came out of my hermitage to comment: I've read a few vampire!House fics before, but only with this one is it apparent why it's such a perfect AU scenario. On the television show, House takes from Wilson all the time (his time, his money, his sanity...) and I think it's so appropriate that in this, House is purely taking from him. It's the perfect, um...I wasn't sure metaphor is the right word, but I just looked it up and some website says "Metaphors are comparisons that show how two things that are not alike in most ways are similar in one important way." Which is to say, with all the differences between this story and the show, the fact that the relationship between House and Wilson is represented so well makes it believable and...perfect.
    • So glad you're enjoying this. We are already working on the next segment of it -- we've actually written a lot in this universe, but need to fill in the blanks and connect it all together. It's a slow process but there will be much, much more, so do stay tuned.

Meanwhile, if you're not familiar with our Collective as individual writers, you may want to go have a look. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
  • I've been putting off starting this one because I didn't know if I could afford to commit the time to it that I knew it would deserve, but this morning I caved and read the first few chapters. Unfortunately I was spoiled for the haemovore revelation because I'd read a few stray chapters posted more recently, but then on the other hand, knowing where you were going with this allowed me to appreciate the set-up as I read.

In this section, Wilson trying to get the spaceship to make contact and/or return to civilization is hilarious. And the first time he's "taken" by House... phwoar!

I am very curious to see whether House really can't drink Wilson's blood against his will, or was temporarily too weak/injured to do so, or whether he simply won't do it because of his own principles.

I love Firefly and the homoerotic aspects of Anne Rice's vampire 'verse, and I'm very much looking forward to the rest of this!
    • *grins*

Thank you for making a very stressful morning a lot nicer. I'm glad you're enjoying this.

Poor Wilson, so out of his depth in every way. And with no idea yet that House is giving him something in return for the blood he takes.
