Bad Company

Another Collective Update

Another Collective Update

Previous Entry Share Next Entry
Greetings, everyone!

Here's the latest from the world of Aftershocks.

As of right now, the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 9th, we have three more chapters left to post.  We are going to post right on through the weekend, wrapping up on Sunday, rather than making you wait.

After that there will be a hiatus of a week or two before we post the three Epilogues.

Many of you have asked whether we'd be putting this into .pdf format so you can easily download it.  One of our amazing and wonderful readers has taken on this task, which is great because none of the Collective had any idea how to do it.  So far it is looking very good and is weighing in at about 300 pages.  Really.

The grand total of chapters?  Bad Company, and then 99 of the Interregnum and Aftershocks.  So that's an even ONE HUNDRED.

And then the three Epilogues.

Have we mentioned that we're a bit ... dizzy and frazzled?  But we're loving it.
  • Great job and Congratulations! You have all done an amazing job. I'm going away this weekend but will be thinking about your postings and counting the minutes till my return. I just loved every single reading minute. :))
  • I can´t remember actually if I have commented to one of your marvelous chapters yet but when I read that there´s going to be a pdf of this ingenius story my heart made such happy bounce I HAD to tell you. I was copying the first 20 or so chapters into a word-document but lost it on the way because I was so keen on reading on.

This is the BEST fanfic I´ve read so far (and no, I´m really not writing this under every good fic I read), although the first chapter itself and the Interregnums were very hard to deal with for me...
    • Thank you!

We're thrilled about the .pdf project, and hoping to come up with a nice piece of cover art for it as well.

We all found Bad Company really hard to deal with. There will be a lot of discussion about that -- and about the whole process that sort of accidentally led to the creation of this enormous story -- once the full tale and the Epilogues are posted.

For those who are interested in the "making of Aftershocks" stuff, we suggest that you put this LJ page on your alerts list so that you know when new posts go up.

We will also, over time, post a few "DVD extras" -- scenes we wrote which we didn't use, usually because they would not have fit into the flow of the story as we were posting it.
  • What a triumph! This has been the most marvelous, engrossing, heart-wrenching and ultimately uplifting story. It must have been like running a relay marathon to write, but the end result is wonderful.

I'm so looking forward to printing it out and sitting down for a long re-read.
  • No. No no no. This isn't allowed to end. EVER.

*sigh* At least there's a 300 page pdf to look forward to. My poor computer will explode... but it'll be a good death.
  • This is an amazing piece of work, this story you have produced for us. You must be - should be - so, so proud at what you have accomplished. This really stands out, in every way, and as a collaboration I can't imagine there are any better. Yes, it is sad to see it creeping towards the end - on the other hand, stories should be ended, and nobody but the storytellers can say when the right time to end it is. I am looking immensely forward to the "making of" and the "DVD extras" - and of course to the last couple of chapters and the Epilogues. I am especially looking forward to finally seeing who wrote what. :)
  • Greetings!

So far it is looking very good and is weighing in at about 300 pages. Really.

Yeah, I can totally believe it. My MSW copy is weighing in at 280-something, I believe, and at this point, I'm several weeks behind in the reading/copying. *grumbles at RL*

Thank'ee's for the warning that if I want to read live, I'd better get caught up today. :-) Looking forward to the extra bits as they come.

And thank'ee's for doing this in general. I can imagine that it hasn't always been easy, either to write or to schedule. Thank'ee's also for letting this story run its natural course, even when that course kept expanding. :-)
